Catalpa bignonoides, or Southern Catalpa, is an impressive flowering shade tree. It grows to approximately 40′ x 40′, occasionally taller, and features large, heart-shaped leaves. The Southern Catalpa tree features large white flowers held upright in clusters to 10″ in May and June. Large decorative seed pods form in summer, which lends the tree its alternate name, the Cigar Tree. We will be planting this tree near the entrance to the High Street entrance to the park. It will provide shade to a bench with a view of the rose garden.
Sponsored trees come with a plaque that includes the tree’s name, the sponsor’s name, and an opportunity to honor someone important in the sponsor’s life.
