Cercis occidentalis, or Western Redbud, is a fantastic but often overlooked native tree. It provides four season beauty with bright magenta flowers in spring, bold heart-shaped leaves in summer, warm yellow and red foliage in the fall, and grayish silver bark on an elegant frame in winter. The profuse spring flowers are a magnet for hummingbirds and pollinators. A native plant, Western Redbud is well-adapted to our wet winter and dry summer ecology. This relatively small tree, only 15′ by 15′ over time, fits in just about anywhere in the landscape. We will be planting in place of a declining Eastern Redbud, which is a popular but less successful tree here in the mid-Willamette Valley.
Sponsored trees come with a plaque that includes the tree’s name, the sponsor’s name, and an opportunity to honor someone important in the sponsor’s life.
